Author Tim Cochrane Reading & Signing

Local author and anthropologist Timothy Cochrane will present his newest book, "Gichi Bitobig, Grand Marais: Early Accounts of the Anishinaabeg and the North Shore Fur Trade”. Published by Univeristy of Minnesota Press.

Through the words of long-ago fur trade clerks, Gichi Bitobig, Grand Marais recovers the overlooked Anishinaabeg and corporate roots of Grand Marais. Using journals from 1823-25, it revels how the lives of local fur traders and the area's indigenous people were shaped and influenced by Lake Superior and its watershed. Full of fascinating personal, local, cultural, and economic details.
