A cisgender woman and her trans spouse learn, change, and grow together, navigating the transition, the communities they found, and the hostility they faced. Read on: In the 1970s, Lynette Reini fell in love with a fascinating, talented man named Steve Grandell. They married in 1983; five years later, Steve came out to her as transgender. Through the following decades, as her spouse developed a public persona as Venus de Mars and fronted the band All the Pretty Horses, the couple struggled to stay together. They navigated an often hostile, anti-trans environment; fractures grew between them as Venus pushed the band toward success. Against the backdrop of the art, literary, and indie rock worlds of Minneapolis and New York in the 1990s and early 2000s, through hard work and love, they invented a way of being who they truly are.
Join the entire community in celebrating Cook County Pride and PRIDE Month. Events will be happening throughout the month of June. Check local listings for more information.

The Superior Hiking Trail Story, The Trek Continues / Expanded Content is a sequel to the 2020 The Superior Hiking Trail Story. The new book was printed in April 2023. It offers four extra years of historical stories gleaned from many interviews with hikers, volunteers, and Superior Hiking Trail Association staff, many new photos and “Sentiment” quotes from hikers plus a new emphasis on volunteers with portrait stories of several “Super Hero” volunteers. New and long-time hikers will all enjoy the rich history of how the trail grew from nothing in 1986 to over 300 miles in length today. There were challenges, great successes and a few little-known mis-steps along the way. Award winning photos alone will make every North Shore enthusiast want this book. Hargesheimer is a long-time North Shore enthusiast. He discovered the new Superior Hiking Trail in 1986 and was soon a Superior Hiking Trail Association volunteer board member, serving twelve years – six of those as President. Rudi was a 40-year employee and manager at Midwest Mountaineering in Minneapolis. He travelled extensively all over the world coming to realize that the best adventures of all were on Minnesota North Shore and the Superior Hiking Trail as his photos will attest. He has written many articles about adventure in Minnesota as a contributor to MN Trails Magazine, Lake Superior Magazine and other regional publications.
